Gold Seed is a duly registered agribusiness in Malawi. Gold Seed agricultural company was founded in 2022 with the aim of developing agricultural value chain in Malawi targeting underprivileged smallholder farmers through the provision of inclusive formal financial services empowering them economically while ensuring sustainable growth. Gold Seed makes formal financing accessible to smallholder farmers through the development of value chain from the provision of input credit to commodity brokerage services. Gold Seed provides input credit/ equity, extension service,agribusiness consultancy and produce marketing. The company has focused on a wide range of commercial horticultural crops including African bird eye chili, garlic, ginger, onion, potatoes, vegetable crops and many more. Gold seed is also working on developing an industrial hemp value chain for its farmers as a substitute of other commercial crops.

Vision

Conewa Agro Solutions envisions to be a supplier of first choice both in quality of its products and wellbeing of its ecosystem. It would like to achieve this by contributing towards the promotion of agro-ecological principles, food security and rural entrepreneurship through capacity development and partnership building with community members and other likeminded entrepreneurs, improve lives of the marginalized groups through green business and sustainable livelihoods creation.

Mission

To provide climate resilient seeds and other inputs for farmers to plant in season thereby achieving project/business sustainability in a manner that both the farmer and the company go home smiling (win-win). Below are three key objectives which inform the operations and management of Conewa Agro Solutions.

To ensure economic profitability of farming as an income generating and wealth creation activity for the farm family and surrounding community as well as to provide the best agricultural products for the local and international consumers and the market.
To promote improved social wellbeing of communities specifically women and men who live around the farm through job creation and provision of some social services including installation of a maize mill which promotes the establishment of a local market for community members both as traders and buyers of the local produce and essential commodities.
To attain sustainable agricultural practices that integrate soil fertility enhancement through the choice of organically grown crops such as legumes and direct soil fertility enhancement using organic manure and land specific preparation practices using conservation agricultural methods that improve soil structure and minimize use of pesticides and soil erosion.

Objectives

We provide improved and certified agro-chemical to rural masses at agreed rate to ensure they access quality inputs in a bid to increase productivity. We deliberately target older women by financing them with improved house.

Our targeted value chains is sesame and we also provide ready markets under the same value chains

Description of business

Agricultural Finance
Gold seed has Input credit packages compatible for smallholder farmers. These packages include for seeds, irrigation supplies, fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides and all other inputs. Smallholder farmers are required to service the loans at the end of a growing season in form of cash or commodity with very flexible interest rates.
Gold seed also provides Investment Equity packages for various projects or procurement of assets meant for agricultural services.

Gold seed is also offering Grain-bank credit facility which allows smallholder farmers access credit backed by commodity collateral. This should allow the farmers to access cash without problems while protecting their produce from exploitive buyers.

2. Agribusiness Consultancy
Gold seed provides agribusiness consultancy services. The company understands the need of a comprehensive business development strategy in agriculture to ensure that smallholder farmers carryout a comprehensive and smooth enterprise. The aim of the provision of this service is to ensure that smallholder farmers develop a resilient and sustainable business while being economically empowered.

3. Contract farming
Considering the need for reliable and competitive markets, Gold seed issues farming contracts for various commodities. This allows the farmers to be market secured for their commodities while following some regulation as indicted in contracts.

4. Brokerage services
Gold seed also offers commodity brokerage services to smallholder farmers which bridges them with buyers. Lack of reliable markets has affected the development of smallholder farmers hence exposure to exploitative buyers hence losses.
